TOA is an award Winning RIBA Chartered Architects practice in South Devon. We want to craft the extraordinary out of the everyday, crafting unique and beautiful solutions to lift the spirits. These aims are achieved through the careful manipulation of material and light, and the choreography of everyday life. For us, architecture is about people and activity, interaction and experience. It is about real things in real places. We are interested in architecture as a backdrop to life.

Sustainability is rooted in our design approach from the earliest appraisal of a project or a site. We always look to passive solutions to reduce the impact of our designs by harnessing the intrinsic qualities of material and environment. Our Stackyard (Millway) project was the winner of the RIBA East Sustainability Prize 2015.

Offering a full architecture and design service, from initial briefing through to coonstruction, we aim to make the process of construction as enjoyable and stress free as possible, and our services can be tailored to the particular needs and budget of each project. We never rest on assumptions or repeat standard solutions. Each project is questioned from first principles and emerges through collaboration with clients and other stakeholders, ensuring that it addresses clear needs and aspirations in an intelligent and creative way. We work hard to understand our clients and their needs – beyond what is written in the brief – in order to find unexpected opportunities and solutions. The process of creating a project is key to its success, through dialogue and collaboration.

Our recent project in Wembury, South Devon, was recently featured on Inside Out Homes on Channel4. We collaborated with London architect, and the show’s presenter, Zac Monro on the project which transformed a tired and confused house into a spacious modern home. With spectacular views of Wembury Bay and within walking distance of the beach, the house is now opened up and connected to the garden and view.
